How exchange rates work
Currency exchange rates tell you how much of one currency you can buy with another. They fluctuate constantly based on interest rates, inflation, economic indicators, and market sentiment.
Live rates from the European Central Bank
This converter uses the Frankfurter API, a free public service backed by ECB reference rates. Rates are published every weekday around 16:00 CET and are widely used as a benchmark in European finance.
What about crypto?
We currently don't include cryptocurrency. Most fiat-to-fiat conversions are what people need for travel, business, and remittances. For crypto, check a dedicated crypto tracker.
Tips for travelers
- Airport exchanges have the worst rates. Use a bank ATM or a no-foreign-transaction-fee credit card instead.
- If your bank charges a 1-3% foreign transaction fee, you'll save money by exchanging at home before you leave.
- Check the "mid-market" rate (what this tool shows) versus what you're being offered — anything more than 2-3% above mid-market is a bad deal.
